Embracing Glamping: Our Extravagance in the Great Outdoors

🌸 Although it does not yet feel like it here in Denver (it was snowing just the other day), Spring is upon us. At least the southern portions of the continent appear to be experiencing weather more akin to the transition from Winter’s cold grip to the optimistic rays of Spring. As such, I am reminded of many festivals and social gatherings I have attended over the years, most cleverly disguised as camping trips. Of course, with my motto of “Anything worth doing is worth overdoing,” I was not content with just camping, as mere mortals would be. I always had to go above and beyond to develop, cultivate, procure, and create the most glamorous experience possible with whatever means I could avail myself of.

😎 I was always accused by my friends of not camping, but ‘glamping,’ (also known as princess camping,) due to being a bit extravagant and unnecessary in the comforts that I insisted upon if I were to accompany my friends on their trips into the great outdoors. I believe the term best fitting for me would be “Extra”. I always made certain that I had everything that I needed and most things that I wanted. My friends discovered that though I tended to be deemed “Extra” by them, they were always glad I was there whenever a stray thought would hit them and they would start in on “Oh, wouldn’t it be nice if we had…. ” 9 times out of 10, I could go to my stash of additional items I thought would be helpful and pull out whatever it was that they were wishing they had brought. Usually producing the item or items within minutes of their uttering their wish.

🛏️ I felt it necessary for my tent to hold 2 queen air mattresses, (double high with headboard) 2 bedside tables, tent-wall to tent-wall carpeting, a private shower and toilet. I also had a porch and yard area where fellow campers could commune and relax on the air sofa and recliner with ottoman. The patio or porch was tarped above and below so guests would not have to worry about getting dirty once they removed their shoes. (and I would not have to worry about guests tracking dirt into my temporary abode.) Although I did, of course, have with me methods to remedy messy guests, I preferred to avoid it altogether.
